Special Illustration Rare (SIR)
★★ Gold · ~1 in 250 packs
The crown jewels of modern Pokémon TCG. Special Illustration Rares feature full-card alternate artwork by top artists, often showing Pokémon in cinematic scenes. Cards like the Moonbreon-style SIRs routinely command hundreds of dollars.
Hyper Rare / Gold Rare
★★★ · ~1 in 200 packs
Gold-bordered, gold-etched cards — usually Pokémon ex, Trainers, or special Energy. Their metallic gold texture makes them instantly recognizable and they sit at the very top of most set rarity charts.
Illustration Rare (IR)
★ Gold · ~1 in 12 packs
Full-art alternate artwork cards of regular Pokémon, telling little visual stories. Illustration Rares brought back the beloved "alt art" style and are among the most collected cards in every modern set.
Ultra Rare (Full Art ex/V)
★★ Silver · ~1 in 15 packs
Full-art versions of powerful Pokémon ex and Trainer cards with textured foil. Ultra Rares are the staple chase tier — flashy, playable, and consistently valuable.
Double Rare (ex / V / GX)
◆◆ · ~1 in 6 packs
The standard "big Pokémon" cards — Pokémon ex in current sets (previously V and GX). Holographic with high HP and strong attacks, these are the backbone of competitive decks.
Holo Rare
★ · ~1 in 3 packs
Classic holographic rares with shimmering foil artwork. Vintage Holo Rares like Base Set Charizard are some of the most valuable cards ever printed, even though modern holos are easier to pull.
Rare (Non-Holo)
★ · 1 per pack (rare slot)
Marked with a black star, every booster pack guarantees at least one rare-slot card. Non-holo rares are common pulls, but first editions and vintage printings can still carry serious value.
Reverse Holo
⟡ · 1 per pack
Any common, uncommon, or rare card where the card body (not the artwork) is holographic. One appears in nearly every modern pack, and certain reverse holos with special stamps become surprise chase cards.
Uncommon
◆ · 3 per pack
Marked with a black diamond. Uncommons include Stage 1 evolutions and useful Trainer cards. Rarely valuable, but essential for completing sets and building decks.
Common
● · 4-5 per pack
Marked with a black circle — the baseline rarity. Basic Pokémon and simple Trainers. Bulk commons have little individual value, but iconic commons like Base Set Pikachu remain nostalgic favorites.
